Throughout the month of November, 6thclass have been organizing the annual school Jumble Sale.
The Jumble Sale consisted of home baked goods, pizza, popcorn, toys, books, DVDs, teddies, bath sets, costumes and much more.
We had an abundance of activities happening on the day including ‘Guess Who?’ and ‘How many?’ games, as well as our amazing raffle. All classes enjoyed being part of the fun and excitement.
We helped the local community:
The Capuchin Day Centre was founded by Capuchin Brother, Kevin Crowley, in 1969. It is situated on Arran Quay in Dublin’s city centre. Its aim to provide food, clothing, healthcare and shelter for the homeless. The Centre provides 1,000 hot meals a day to the homeless in Dublin. In the centre they have a doctor, a nurse, a dentist, a family social worker and hairdresser. Hundreds of people avail of their services every day.
The children of 6thclass wanted to do something to show their compassion and love for those in need, especially as we are preparing to be confirmed. We organised a Jumble Sale in school on the 29thof November and fundraised for this amazing cause. We decided to donate half of the funds raised, €700, to Brother Kevin Crowley for his day care centre. Our student council members in our class visited the centre and talked to Brother Kevin. When he received our donation he expressed such gratitude and 6thclass are very proud of their accomplishment.
6thclass played their part in making the Christmas Spirit come alive around our school and community. Our annual Christmas concert was hosted by Jane Brien and Alexandra Walsh. We performed the finale of the Christmas Concert with ‘Lost Boy’ from Peter Pan and a collaboration of Christmas songs. Both spectators and participants had an amazing, festive day.
6thclass also played their part for their immediate community with the help of Ms. Larkin and Mr. Bracken. Once again, we performed a carol service in Ballyfermot, outside the local Tesco. The children thoroughly enjoyed this day and enjoyed singing everyone’s favourite Christmas songs. Shoppers enjoyed getting into the Christmas spirit as we sang. With every person’s generosity we raised an amazing €400 for our school! We would like to thank everyone again for your donations
Science Week 2018
Science Week 2018 took place between November 11th– 15th. Many events take place during this week. In 6thclass we decided to get hands on and do some experiments. The children read the experiments, gathered their materials and worked together in teams to investigate and try out the experiments. Science is a matter of trial and error and the children worked hard to make each experiment work. The pictures below show you how our spectacular scientists made each experiment a success:
